This FAQ contains questions/answers and best practices on how to use the Tegrity Pen and the Tegrity Notes software during class, on a weekly basis, and when studying for an exam.
Misconception About Tegrity Notes
- You DO NOT need to study from the computer - many students think that Tegrity forces them to read their notes and study from the computer. This is a wrong assumption.
- Tegrity helps you to create bookmarks on your notebook (e.g., using asterisk or star signs) in order to refer back to the recorded class, only when a question or additional clarification is needed. Thus, you should use your notebook for studying and refer to the computer (electronic notebook) only when you want to bring the instructor back at a specific point.
- If you do not have a need to refer back to the recorded lecture, that's is definitely OK
- Tegrity Notebook is not an additional notebook, but a replacement for your traditional notebook. You should use the Tegrity Notebooks using Tegrity Pen, and other colored pens and highlighters, exactly as if you were using the traditional notebook.
- However, you should remember that only notes taken with the Tegrity Pen will create bookmarks to the recorded lecture.
- Take your Tegrity Pen and notebook out at the beginning of class. Verify that your Tegrity Pen is charged and has free memory by looking at the LED indicators after taking the cap off. If one of the indicators is flashing red please be aware your notes may not be captured. You should connect your Tegrity Pen to your computer to import the notes and charge the battery.
- Take notes using your Tegrity Pen and notebook. Keep in mind that in addition to having your paper notebook, you can always use your Tegrity Notes to bring the instructor back to explain a point again.
- During class, whenever you don't understand something and would like to review it at a later time, flag the relevant notes, for example, with an asterisk.
- During class, when the instructor mentions that a certain topic will be in the exam, flag the relevant notes, for example, with 2 asterisks
- Cap your Tegrity Pen at the end of class, to conserve the battery.
